Reasons why a company that uses foreign exchange (FX) might suddenly stop using FX or switch FX providers unexpectedly.

Companies that regularly use FX can sometimes stop using FX or switch FX providers for no apparent reason. Here are a few reasons why these changes occur:

  1. The company had a specific need for FX for a defined period. Once that ends they move back to operate only in USD or whatever their home currency is.

  2. The company goes bankrupt.

  3. The owner retires and closes down the business.

  4. The company is acquired and the new owner has a different FX provider.

  5. A new financial person is appointed to manage FX and he/she shakes things up to make their mark by moving the FX to a new provider despite there being no substantive issues with the current FX provider.

Nothing is permanent or static. As the old saying goes, "If you are not growing your business, it is shrinking."
