AI – Your Co-Pilot or Boss?

AI is a true game-changing technology that can drive operational efficiency if used correctly. AI accesses reams of information and analyzes it quickly to deliver results. That said, it is still early days, and AI is often generating incorrect responses. Try asking an AI generated result – “Are you sure?” a couple of times and witness how the replies may vary.

The serious risk to organizations is that if AI generated answers are accepted blindly then errors will likely occur. And those errors could potentially be quite costly or violate regulations.  For example, compliance professionals using AI might approve a new client or transaction that should otherwise be rejected or at least further reviewed. Can your organization afford AI errors?

To counter the real downsides of AI, Management needs to establish rules of engagement with AI query results so that team members don’t become jaded and overly reliant on AI answers.  Humans should make an initial decision then verify that decision against AI’s recommendation.

At a recent business school reunion AI was presented as an important game-changing tool. However, the point the professor emphasized was that AI should be seen as your Co-Pilot not the Pilot or Boss in the case of a company.
